Jennifer Machowska Evans is a multidisciplinary artist and writer who explores the boundaries between the human body, self and the landscape. Physical exploration, conservation, nurture and labour in the natural world become her primary research. Through this direct engagement, she transforms myth, memory and outer landscapes into creative expression and personal reclamation.

With a deep childhood connection to hinterlands, growing up in the Welsh Marches to Welsh and Polish parents, she found her physical and emotional bodies were not safe places from an early age. Now, she views her artwork as a memorial to a reclaimed ecosystem built on lived experiences, faded memories, lessons learned and scars proudly earned. Transmuting themes of hand-me-down shame and fear-trauma cycles into dark, fertile earth, she often destroys and regenerates her pieces in deliberate acts of defiance, allowing something less perfect and more ambiguous to emerge.

Her background spans studies in politics and media, contemporary art and 14 years in brand strategy and communications across health and wellness, sports, fashion, hospitality, tech and finance - sectors that observe, measure and distort our relationships with our bodies for commercial gain. Today, Jennifer uses her art as a deliberate act of intervention to reclaim the physical self within the post-industrial landscape of North Yorkshire and was selected for the Ones to Watch 2024 exhibition at Sunny Bank Mills, showcasing Yorkshire’s top emerging creative talent.

Jennifer’s reverence for the physical body extends beyond her art. As a qualified personal trainer and NLP wellbeing coach, she treats the body as a site of ongoing reclamation. Outside the studio, she spends her time trail running, dancing in woodlands, reading history, studying horticulture and conservation and finding new ways to make creativity and physicality an integrated way of being.
