Beauty in death
After a week of a cold induced house arrest I decided to play fast and loose with my health and cycle to over to Broughton Sanctuary to see what volunteer land work was happening under the vague promise to myself that I would give myself an honorary discharge if a) I felt shit b) it rained heavily as forecast.
Fortunately neither happened. And the two guys that seemed more hungry than me for the physical side of things gave me a chance to appreciate the beauty of small things. A lichen encrusted dead hawthorn with its labyrinthine beetle bark was the highlight.
In death the Hawthorn has become part home for the little creatures, part fence post, part art inspiration for me and possibly part art installation for the yurt at Broughton Sanctuary.
